Commercial permission and Content ID eligibility are different. A Soul Chemist licence can permit you to release and monetise a finished production without giving you exclusive ownership of every underlying sound or automatic eligibility for Content ID.

CONTENT ID IN PLAIN ENGLISH

An automated match is not automatically a copyright strike.

Content ID compares uploaded videos with reference audio supplied by participating rights holders. A match can apply a policy such as monetising, tracking or blocking the video.

ID
CONTENT ID CLAIM

An automated rights-management action

A claim usually affects the individual video. Depending on the claimant’s policy, the video may remain online, generate revenue for the claimant, be tracked or be blocked in certain territories.

!
COPYRIGHT STRIKE

A removal request with channel consequences

A strike follows a legal copyright removal request and is more serious. A normal Content ID claim does not usually create a strike by itself.

SOUL CHEMIST STANDARD-PRODUCT RULE

Release the finished song—but do not claim the shared source sample as exclusively yours.

Standard Sample Packs, Drum Kits, Bundles and MPC Expansions are generally licensed non-exclusively. Other authorised customers may use the same sounds in their own legitimate productions.

REFERENCE ELIGIBILITY

Content ID reference material requires exclusive control.

A distributor or rights-management provider may submit your track as reference audio. Before enabling that service, confirm that every part used for matching satisfies the provider’s current rules.

GENERALLY SUITABLE

Material you control exclusively

  • Your original performance and recording.
  • Your own composition and production elements.
  • Exclusive commissioned material covered by written rights.
  • Reference sections containing no ineligible third-party material.
?
CHECK WITH THE PROVIDER

Finished tracks containing licensed samples

  • Non-exclusive sounds embedded inside an original production.
  • Loops that remain clearly recognisable or exposed.
  • Tracks delivered to social rights-management systems.
  • Releases where only some territories are exclusively controlled.
×
NOT SUITABLE AS EXCLUSIVE REFERENCE

Shared or non-exclusive source material

  • Raw Soul Chemist samples and loops.
  • Exposed production loops used with little transformation.
  • Standard sounds also licensed to other customers.
  • Any material you cannot validly claim against all other users.
REFERENCE EXCLUSIONS

Ineligible sections should be excluded from automated matching where the provider supports it.

If a reference includes a non-exclusive loop or another element you do not control exclusively, the reference provider should prevent that section from generating claims rather than claiming the entire track indiscriminately.

CAN I STILL RELEASE THE SONG?

Yes—distribution and exclusive claiming are separate decisions.

A track can be commercially licensed for release on YouTube and streaming services even when it is not appropriate for unrestricted automated claiming.

01RELEASE

Distribute the finished master

Upload and monetise a qualifying production under the applicable Soul Chemist licence.

02DECLARE

Answer rights questions honestly

Do not tell a distributor that all underlying material is exclusive when standard non-exclusive samples are present.

03SELECT

Choose eligible destinations

Disable Content ID or another rights destination when the provider’s exclusive-control requirements are not satisfied.

04DOCUMENT

Keep your licence records

Save the order, invoice, product name, release details and distributor correspondence.

WHEN YOUR VIDEO RECEIVES A CLAIM

Review first. Dispute only with a valid basis.

A claim can be correct, incorrect or caused by a distributor reference that contains shared material. Identify the exact match before choosing an action.

01

Open the claim details

Check the claimant, matched audio, timestamps, territories and whether the policy monetises, tracks or blocks.

02

Identify the source

Compare the matched section with your project and the exact Soul Chemist product used.

03

Collect proof

Locate the invoice, order number, licence and any written permission connected to the release.

04

Choose the correct response

Leave a valid claim, remove the matched content or dispute only when you hold the necessary rights.

VALID REASONS MAY INCLUDE

You have the necessary rights

  • The sound was licensed for the use shown.
  • The video was misidentified.
  • The claimant is using an improper shared-sample reference.
  • The claim covers material you control and the claimant does not.
NOT VALID BY THEMSELVES

These facts do not prove the claim is wrong

  • You credited the claimant.
  • You bought a copy of a song or video.
  • You chose not to monetise the upload.
  • You dislike the policy applied to the claim.
SUBMITYou send a dispute through YouTube Studio.
REVIEWThe claimant receives the dispute and reviews it.
RESPONSEThe claimant can release, reinstate or escalate the matter.
CAUTIONAn unsupported dispute can create additional risk.
Do not dispute automatically.

Only challenge a claim when the licence and facts genuinely support you. Repeated misuse of the dispute process can lead to penalties, and a claimant may submit a copyright removal request.

SELF-CLAIMS & DISTRIBUTOR CLAIMS

Your own distributor can claim your own channel.

This can happen when a release has been enrolled in automated rights management and the channel has not been excluded or allowlisted by the provider.

YOUR OWN VIDEO

Contact the distributor first

Ask whether the channel can be allowlisted, released from the claim or excluded from future claims under their current system.

CLIENT OR ARTIST CHANNEL

Confirm authorised channels before release

Provide channel details to the distributor where whitelisting is available and permitted by the agreement.

ANOTHER LICENSED PRODUCER

Do not maintain a shared-sample claim

If the match is caused by a standard non-exclusive sound, instruct the provider to review and release the legitimate conflict.

REPEATED FALSE CLAIMS

Remove the problematic reference

Ask the reference provider to exclude the shared section or disable automated claiming for the affected release.

IMPORTANT

Being first to distribute a track does not create exclusive ownership of a standard sample.

Every authorised customer retains the commercial rights granted by their licence. Automated systems should not be used to interfere with legitimate productions made from the same non-exclusive source material.

CONTENT ID CHECKER

What should I do in this situation?

Select the closest scenario. Your distributor or rights-management provider may impose additional requirements.

PERMITTED

You may distribute the finished song.

Commercial release is permitted under the applicable licence. Content ID should only be enabled when the exact reference satisfies the provider’s exclusive-rights requirements.

PROOF & SUPPORT RECORDS

Keep everything needed to explain the match.

A complete record helps Soul Chemist, your distributor or a platform understand whether the match comes from authorised sample use or another protected element.

01

Purchase proof

Order number, invoice and purchase email.

02

Product details

Exact pack, sound name and applicable licence.

03

Claim details

Claimant, timestamps, territories and policy.

04

Release details

Artist, title, ISRC, distributor and channel URL.

CONTENT ID QUESTIONS

Practical answers for producers and artists.

Search by claim, strike, distributor, sample or release type.

What is Content ID? +

It is YouTube’s automated matching system for participating copyright owners. Reference audio is compared with uploaded videos and an assigned policy can monetise, track or block a match.

Is a Content ID claim the same as a copyright strike? +

No. A claim usually affects the video and normally does not create a strike. A strike follows a copyright removal request and can affect the channel.

Can I release a song made with Soul Chemist samples? +

Yes, when the product licence covers the intended use. Releasing the finished song does not mean the underlying standard samples can be claimed as exclusively yours.

Can I enable Content ID through my distributor? +

Only when the distributor accepts the release and its reference material satisfies the provider’s exclusive-rights rules. Standard non-exclusive sounds must not generate claims against legitimate users.

Can I register a raw Soul Chemist sample or loop? +

No. Standard raw samples, exposed production loops and other non-exclusive library assets must not be submitted as exclusively owned reference material.

Does chopping or processing a sample make it exclusive? +

No. Processing may create a distinctive production, but it does not automatically transfer exclusive ownership of the source material.

Why did my own distributor claim my video? +

The release may have been enrolled in automated rights management while your channel remained outside the provider’s allowlist. Contact the distributor and request the supported channel-release or allowlisting procedure.

What if my track claims another producer using the same sample? +

Review and release the legitimate conflict. A standard non-exclusive licence does not permit either customer to block the other’s authorised production.

When should I dispute a claim? +

Dispute only when you have the necessary rights, the match is incorrect or the claimant is improperly claiming shared material. Keep supporting documents ready.

Does giving credit or turning off monetisation remove a claim? +

No. Credit, owning a copy or choosing not to monetise are not by themselves valid reasons to dispute a claim.

Can a claim affect YouTube Shorts differently? +

Yes. YouTube can apply different availability rules to claimed Shorts depending on their length and current platform policy. Review the exact restriction shown in YouTube Studio.

What happens after I submit a dispute? +

The claimant is notified and can release or reinstate the claim, or take another permitted action. Follow the current timeline and options shown inside YouTube Studio.

What should I do if I receive a copyright strike? +

A strike is more serious than a Content ID claim. Read YouTube’s removal notice carefully and consider qualified legal advice before sending a counter-notification.

What should I send to Soul Chemist support? +

Send the order number, product, sound name if known, video URL, claimant, matched timestamps, distributor and screenshots of the claim details.
