Install your Soul Chemist expansion correctly on MPC Standalone, MPC Beats, MPC 2 or MPC 3 and start creating without broken paths, missing samples or unnecessary setup.
Choose the method that matches your equipment and the files included with your purchase. Available formats and requirements vary by product.

Use this method only if your download includes a prepared Standalone expansion folder and your hardware supports this type of expansion.
Use an SD card, USB drive or compatible user drive with enough free space. For removable media, exFAT is commonly supported; check your MPC model first. Formatting erases data, so back up before making changes.
Create it at the top level—or root—of the destination drive.
Copy the named pack folder itself. Do not copy only the loose programs, artwork or samples.
Your Drive / Expansions / Pack Name /Copying may take longer for large expansions. Do not disconnect storage while files are transferring; eject it safely when the operation finishes.
Open Browser, find the external or user drive and check its Expansions category. If the artwork or program is not visible, check the folder structure and any browser filters.
Load a program, audition several pads and check for missing samples. Save the project on your own user drive, not the protected factory drive.

This installs the .xpn in the desktop software. Desktop and standalone installations are separate.
Locate the file ending in .xpn. It must be outside the compressed archive.
Launch a compatible version of MPC Beats, MPC 2 or MPC 3 and allow it to finish loading. Check your product requirements if the import fails.
Drag the extracted .xpn directly onto the open MPC Software window.
Approve the expansion import and wait until the process completes.
Open the Expansion Browser. The imported pack should appear in that software version. MPC 2 and MPC 3 can use different expansion folders.
Choose a kit or program and load it into your current project.
These are common expansion-browser locations. The Content directory may also hold associated sample data. Do not move or delete installed files unless you have identified the correct copy.

Install the .xpn into MPC Software first. If export is supported for that pack and software version, create a separate copy for your MPC hardware.
For an MPC user drive mounted through the hardware, connect the MPC and enter Controller Mode. On MPC One, One+ and Key 37 first-generation models, drives connected to the MPC USB-A port do not mount on the computer in Controller Mode. Connect the USB drive directly to your computer instead, or use an SD card where supported.
Important: Controller Mode uses content installed on your computer; a pack installed only on the MPC does not automatically appear in the desktop Expansion Browser.
The mapped programs and artwork belong to MPC, but the audio itself can be used in any compatible DAW or sampler.
Open the extracted WAV or Content folder and drag individual files into your project, sampler or drum rack.
This applies to sample-based Soul Chemist expansions. Individual product pages remain the final reference for specialist releases.
MPC Live, Live II, Live III; MPC One, One+ and One Gen 2; MPC X, X SE and XL; MPC Key 37, Key 37 Gen 2 and Key 61. Availability of specific features and expansions depends on the device firmware and the individual pack.
MPC Beats, MPC 2 and MPC 3 on supported Windows or macOS systems, subject to the requirements listed on the product page. Installing in one desktop version does not automatically install it in another.
Akai Force follows its own compatibility requirements: check the individual expansion before purchasing or transferring it. WAV files, if included, can also be used in WAV-compatible samplers and DAWs.
Modern XPN installers and prepared MPC standalone expansion folders are not directly supported on vintage models such as MPC 2000XL. Original WAV audio may be usable only after conversion or preparation for your specific sampler. The MPC photography on this page is illustrative, not a compatibility guarantee.

Most errors come from an unextracted ZIP, an incorrect folder level or a partial transfer.
Confirm that the download is fully extracted. Drag the actual file ending in .xpn into the open MPC application—not the ZIP, a shortcut or its containing folder.
Check that it is located exactly at Drive / Expansions / Pack Name /. The Expansions folder must be at the root and the full named pack folder must remain inside it.
First check the folder level, the original sample names and whether the transfer finished. Keep a backup of your download. If the copy is incomplete, extract the original ZIP again and recopy the entire prepared pack. Remove an incomplete copy only after you have confirmed which folder is affected; do not delete unrelated content.
Check for missing-file warnings, the selected program track, main output, pad mute state and project routing. Load another included program to isolate the cause.
Check the connection, storage format and Controller Mode first. On first-generation MPC One, One+ and Key 37, a USB drive attached to the MPC USB-A port will not mount through Controller Mode. Connect that drive directly to the computer, or use a compatible SD card. Do not format a drive to solve visibility problems without backing it up.
Check free space, reconnect the drive and copy again from a fresh extraction. Never remove storage while data is being written and always eject safely.
Make sure it is not nested inside another folder. The structure must begin at the drive root: Drive / Expansions / Pack Name /.
Restart the same MPC Software version you imported into and check the Expansion Browser. Then inspect the matching MPC 2 or MPC 3 desktop paths shown above. Ensure the XPN import completed; do not move the internal files blindly.

Use removable storage or a compatible user drive instead of modifying protected factory content. This keeps third-party packs separate and easier to back up.
Use firmware and desktop software compatible with your hardware and the product requirements. An update may be advisable, but check your project backups and release notes first; do not assume every pack requires the newest firmware.
This usually means that the pack exists in more than one location or was imported more than once. Check your software version and the expansion locations listed above. Identify the duplicate and make a backup before removing any files. Never delete both copies or change the internal pack structure.
MPC 2 and MPC 3 use separate desktop expansion locations. Confirm which version you installed the XPN into, then import the original XPN into the intended compatible version if needed. An MPC 2 installation does not automatically populate MPC 3.
Standalone Mode uses the expansion stored on your MPC drive; Controller Mode relies on content installed on the computer. To use the Expansion Browser in desktop software, install the supplied XPN in the compatible computer version. Alternatively, browse the MPC drive as files where supported.
No. Modern XPN expansion installers and prepared standalone folders are not directly compatible with vintage MPC models such as MPC 2000XL. If your purchase includes WAV files, your older sampler may need specific sample-format conversion and transfer procedures. Check that machine’s documentation before buying or copying files.
Use a filesystem supported by your MPC and operating system; exFAT is commonly recommended for modern MPC removable media. Do not reformat an existing working drive unnecessarily. Formatting erases all data, so back up everything first.
