How to Import Samples
Move from download to first sound with a clean, reliable workflow for Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, MPC, Maschine, other major DAWs and supported hardware samplers.
WAV-ready workflow
No plug-in required
DAW and sampler guides
Do not work from the ZIP file. Extract the complete download first, move the library to a permanent location and import the WAV files found inside. A ZIP is only the delivery container.
BEFORE OPENING YOUR DAW
Prepare the library once. Use it for years.
A clean storage system prevents missing samples, duplicate folders and broken project references later.
Save the complete product
Allow every archive and folder to finish downloading before opening or moving anything.
Open the ZIP archive
Use Extract All on Windows or double-click the ZIP on macOS. Work only with the extracted folder.
Choose a permanent location
Use a dedicated Samples folder on an internal drive or reliable external SSD—not a temporary Downloads folder.
Keep a second copy
Back up the original library before editing filenames, converting audio or reorganizing individual sounds.
RECOMMENDED STRUCTURE
One master folder for every Soul Chemist product.
Add the main library folder to your DAW browser instead of adding every pack separately. Keep each product’s internal folders intact.

THE UNIVERSAL METHOD
Import any WAV sample in five steps.
The wording changes between applications, but almost every modern DAW or sampler follows the same basic workflow.
Open the DAW browser
Show the panel used to browse files, media, sounds or user content.
Locate the extracted folder
Browse to the permanent Soul Chemist library on your computer or external drive.
Preview the sound
Click a WAV to audition it before loading. Activate tempo-sync preview only when useful.
Drag it to the destination
Drop the file onto the timeline, an audio track, sampler, drum rack, channel or pad.
Save the project safely
Keep the source folder connected or collect the required samples into the project when your DAW supports it.
LOOPS & BREAKS
Drop onto the timeline
Best for melodic loops, drum breaks, textures and longer phrases that you want to arrange, chop or time-stretch.
ONE-SHOTS
Load into a sampler
Best for kicks, snares, percussion and isolated sounds that should be triggered from pads or MIDI notes.
MIDI FILES
Drop onto an instrument track
MIDI contains notes and timing, not audio. Assign a sampler, drum kit or instrument after importing it.
SOFTWARE & HARDWARE GUIDES

Select a platform to see the fastest clean workflow. Menu names can vary slightly between versions.
ABLETON LIVE
Add the library to Places.
This gives you permanent browser access without copying the samples into Ableton’s factory folders.

Open Live’s Browser and find the Places section.

Click Add Folder, or drag the Soul Chemist folder from Finder or File Explorer onto Places.

Wait for indexing to finish, then open the pack and click samples to preview them.

Drag loops to Arrangement or Session View. Drag one-shots into Simpler or Drum Rack.
Best practice: Add a focused library folder rather than an entire drive. Very large locations can slow browser indexing.
FL STUDIO
Add the folder to the Browser.
FL Studio can browse, preview and automatically search your custom sample locations.

Drag the extracted Soul Chemist folder from File Explorer or Finder directly onto the FL Studio Browser.

Alternatively open Options → File settings and add it under Browser extra search folders.

Open the new browser folder and click a sound to preview it.

Drag loops to the Playlist, or drag one-shots to the Channel Rack, Sampler, FPC or Slicex.
Best practice: Do not add the root of a complete drive. FL Studio searches custom browser folders when projects need missing samples.
LOGIC PRO
Drag audio from Finder or All Files.
Use the timeline for loops and breaks, Quick Sampler for fast chops or Sampler for mapped instruments.

Extract and store the pack in a permanent Finder location.

Drag a WAV from Finder into the Tracks area, or locate it through Logic’s All Files Browser.

Drop one sample onto Quick Sampler, or drag multiple files into Sampler to create mapped zones.

Choose the appropriate drop option and confirm the project tempo or Flex settings before stretching loops.
Best practice: Sampler instruments reference the original audio locations. Avoid moving or renaming the source library after creating instruments.
MPC SOFTWARE & STANDALONE
Browse WAV or load a prepared expansion.
Raw samples can be assigned manually, while an XPN or Standalone folder loads mapped Soul Chemist programs.

For raw WAV files, open the MPC Browser and navigate to the connected drive or library folder.

Preview a sample and load it into the Sample Pool.

Create or select a Drum Program, then assign samples to the required pads.

For a complete mapped expansion, follow the XPN or Standalone installation method instead.
MASCHINE
Load immediately or add a User Library.
Drag individual WAV files onto sounds for quick use, or index the main folder for permanent browser access.

For immediate use, open the Files area and navigate to the extracted library.

Preview the sound and drag it onto a Sound slot or pad.

For library access, open Preferences → Library → User and add the parent folder.

Run a rescan and browse the samples from the User content area.
Best practice: Classify loops and one-shots correctly when editing user tags so tempo-synced preview and loading behaviour remain useful.
CUBASE · STUDIO ONE · PRO TOOLS
Use the media browser or drag and drop.
All three can place standard audio files directly into a project and offer browser-based workflows for repeat access.
CUBASE
Open MediaBay with F5, locate the WAV and drag it to the event display. Double-clicking can create a suitable track automatically.
STUDIO ONE
Open the Files tab in the Browser, locate the library and drag a sample to the Arrange view, Sample One XT or Impact XT.
PRO TOOLS
Drag audio from Finder, File Explorer or a Workspace browser to an audio track, empty Edit window space or the Clips List.
Best practice: When the DAW offers Copy, Convert or Reference options, copy important audio into the project folder for portable sessions.
ROLAND SP-404MKII
Use the app or the SD-card import folder.
The dedicated app is the fastest visual method; SD-card import is useful for a computer-to-hardware workflow.

With the SP-404MKII App, drag compatible audio from the computer onto an empty pad.

For SD import, place files inside the card’s IMPORT folder.

On the hardware open Import, choose Import from SD-Card, select Sample and choose a destination pad.

Wait for the Working message to finish before removing the card, disconnecting or powering off.
Important: Hardware import specifications depend on the exact method and system version. Keep the original WAV masters before creating converted copies.
WORK WITH THE SOUND
Importing is only the beginning.
Choose a workflow based on the type of source material and the result you want.
Chop before adding effects
Find the strongest moments, create several slices and rearrange them before building the processing chain.
Choose audio or pad slicing
Keep the break on the timeline for natural swing, or slice the transients to rebuild the pattern from pads.
Map consistent pad roles
Keep kicks, snares, hats and percussion in familiar pad positions so every new kit feels immediate.
Print the transformation
Stretch, reverse, filter or resample the source, then commit the result as new audio to simplify the project.
BPMSet or detect the project tempo before warping a loop.
KEYTune melodic material by ear or with your preferred detection tool.
GAINLeave headroom instead of normalising every imported sample.
BACKUPKeep untouched source files separate from processed versions.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Fix common import problems.
Search by symptom, software or file type. Most errors come from an unextracted archive, a moved library or an automatic stretch setting.
The DAW will not accept the ZIP file +
Extract the complete archive first. Import the WAV or MIDI files inside it. Use an XPN only through MPC Software.
The folder does not appear in my DAW browser +
Confirm that the folder is stored locally, contains supported files and has been added to the correct browser or user-library location. Refresh, rescan or restart the application after adding it.
The loop plays at the wrong speed +
Disable automatic warping or stretching, confirm the project tempo and re-import the original WAV. Then choose the correct tempo-sync mode deliberately.
The sample is pitched incorrectly +
Check the sampler root note, transpose value, project pitch controls and any automatic key detection. Load the file onto an audio track to hear the untouched original.
The MIDI file is silent +
MIDI contains notes and timing but no sound. Place it on a MIDI or instrument track and load a compatible instrument, drum kit or sampler program.
My project cannot find the imported samples +
Reconnect the source drive or relink the missing folder. Do not move or rename an active library. Use your DAW’s collect, copy or save-with-media feature for important projects.
My chops click at the beginning or end +
Move the slice boundary to a zero crossing or add a very short fade. Also check that no extreme envelope or time-stretch setting is creating the transient.
The imported sample plays on only one side +
Check whether the source is mono, stereo or split-channel audio, then inspect track panning and sampler output routing. Test the original file in a normal audio player.
A sample appears damaged or unreadable +
Download or extract a fresh copy and confirm that the file has completed cloud synchronisation. If the same filename still fails, contact support with the product and exact file name.
Can I drag the XPN directly into another DAW? +
No. Import the XPN through MPC Beats, MPC 2 or MPC 3. In another DAW, use the included WAV files or open MPC as a compatible plug-in.

Yes, when the production app supports WAV import. Large libraries are easier to extract and organize on a computer before transferring the required files to the mobile device.
I still cannot import a sample +
