Three rules prevent almost every installation problem.

Start here before moving files, renaming folders or opening MPC Software.

01 · EXTRACT

Unzip the download first.

The ZIP is only the delivery container. Do not drag the ZIP into MPC Software and do not copy it to your MPC drive.

02 · CHOOSE ONE ROUTE

Use the method that matches your workflow.

Desktop users import the XPN. Standalone users can copy the prepared folder or export from MPC Software.

03 · KEEP IT INTACT

Do not rebuild the folder structure.

Programs reference the audio inside the pack. Moving or renaming internal files can create missing sample errors.

Know your files

Three delivery formats. Three different jobs.

Most current Sample Packs by Soul Chemist MPC Expansions include these formats. Always check the product page because specialist releases can differ.

Desktop

.XPN

The MPC expansion package. Import it into MPC Beats, MPC 2 or MPC 3 to install artwork, programs and mapped content in the Expansion Browser.

Open with MPC Software. It is not a universal audio format.
Hardware

Standalone folder

A prepared expansion folder for compatible MPC hardware. Copy the complete pack folder into an Expansions folder at the root of your user storage.

Keep the complete pack folder together. Do not copy only the loose files inside it.
Universal

WAV

The original audio. Load it directly into Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, Cubase, Pro Tools, Maschine or any sampler that accepts standard WAV audio.

WAV files do not carry MPC artwork, pad mappings, choke groups or program settings.
Installation

Choose the route that matches where you create.

You do not need to perform every method. Pick the workflow that matches your MPC setup.

ROUTE 01

Install the XPN on your computer.

For MPC Beats, MPC 2, MPC 3, controller based workflows and the MPC plug in inside another DAW.

Desktop
01Extract the ZIP

Open the download and extract the complete contents to a normal folder.

02Open MPC Software

Launch MPC Beats, MPC 2 or MPC 3 before importing the expansion.

03Drag in the .xpn

Drag the extracted XPN file onto the open MPC application and confirm the import.

04Load from Expansions

Open the Expansion Browser, select the artwork and load a program.

Do not import the ZIP. Akai documents the XPN workflow as importing the extracted .xpn into MPC Software.
ROUTE 02

Copy the prepared Standalone folder.

The fastest route when your Soul Chemist download already includes a complete Standalone expansion folder.

01Connect user storage

Use an SD card, USB drive or compatible user SSD that your computer can access.

02Create Expansions

At the root of the drive create a folder named exactly:

03Copy the whole pack

Place the complete Soul Chemist expansion folder inside it.

04Eject and browse

Safely eject the drive, connect it to the MPC and open Browser, then Expansions.

Keep the pack folder intact. Do not separate programs from their content folder and do not rename internal folders after installation.
ROUTE 03

Export from MPC 2 to hardware.

Use MPC 2 to create the standalone copy automatically after the XPN has been installed on the computer.

01Connect the destination drive

Use external media or a user drive visible to the computer.

02Open the export command

Inside MPC 2 use:

File > Export > Expansion…
03Select expansion and drive

Tick the expansion and choose the correct destination media.

04Wait and eject

Let MPC finish the export completely before safely removing the drive.

ROUTE 04

Export from MPC 3 to hardware.

MPC 3 uses Expansion Manager for expansion export.

01Connect your drive

Make sure the destination has enough free space for the complete expansion.

02Open Expansion Manager

Inside MPC 3 use:

File > Tools > Expansion Manager
03Choose Export

Select the expansion and the external or user drive you want to use.

04Complete the transfer

Wait for the completion message before ejecting the drive or returning to standalone mode.

Check your exact MPC workflow before installing.

This checker applies to sample based Sample Packs by Soul Chemist expansions. Products that depend on specialist plug ins can have additional requirements.

If your exact model is not listed, contact support with the model and MPC version before purchasing.

Storage & folders

Install it once. Keep it where the MPC expects it.

For standalone use, keep the full pack folder inside an Expansions folder at the root of your user storage. The structure matters more than anything else here.

Three rules

The clean installation checklist.

If these three points are right, installation normally stays clean and painless.

01
Use exFAT if the same drive moves between systems.

Akai documents read and write support for exFAT, FAT32, NTFS and EXT4 on MPC hardware, with HFS+ available as read only. exFAT is the simplest cross platform choice.

Install on user storage, not on protected factory content.

Use SD, USB or a compatible user SSD. Newer hardware such as MPC XL also exposes dedicated user storage areas for this exact job.

Controller mode can hide USB media on some models.

On MPC One series and MPC Key 37, a USB drive connected through the MPC USB A port may not mount on the computer in controller mode. Connect that drive directly to the computer or use SD storage.

Where expansions live on your computer

If you are checking the desktop side first, these are the default expansion folders used by MPC 3 and MPC 2.

Expansion location

Use this folder to confirm that MPC 3 Desktop can already see the expansion on your system.

This is the standard library location used by MPC 3 on macOS.

MPC 2 keeps the older application folder naming, depending on the operating system you are using.

Troubleshooting

Most expansion problems are folder or workflow problems.

The XPN will not import.
Make sure the download has been extracted and drag the actual .xpn into an open MPC application. Do not drag the ZIP. If nothing happens, update MPC Software and try again.
The expansion does not appear on my standalone MPC.
Confirm the structure is Drive / Expansions / Pack Folder. The complete pack folder must sit inside the Expansions folder at the root of your user drive. Safely eject the drive, reconnect it and reopen Browser.
The program loads but samples are missing.
The internal folder structure has probably changed. Recopy the expansion as one complete folder. Do not rename, move or delete internal content folders or individual WAV files after the program has been built.
I installed it on hardware but cannot see it in MPC Software.
Standalone and desktop installations are separate. Import the XPN on the computer as well, or manually browse the external Expansions folder when your workflow supports it.
My drive is not visible on the computer in controller mode.
For MPC One series and MPC Key 37 workflows, a USB drive connected through the MPC USB A port may not mount on the computer. Connect that USB drive directly to the computer. An SD card connected to the MPC is often the easier transfer route.
The expansion appears twice.
This normally means the pack was imported more than once or a duplicate folder exists in an MPC content location. Remove only the duplicate and keep the complete working copy intact.
MPC 3 and MPC 2 do not show the same content.
They use different desktop expansion locations. Install the XPN in the MPC version you actively use. Moving folders manually between MPC 2 and MPC 3 locations is not recommended when a normal XPN import is available.
FAQ

Everything to check before downloading again.

Do I need a computer?
A computer is normally used to download and extract the product. After the prepared Standalone folder has been copied to compatible user storage, supported MPC hardware can use the expansion without keeping the computer connected.
Does an XPN install directly on classic MPC hardware?
No. Modern XPN expansion packages and the current Expansion Browser are for the modern MPC software and standalone ecosystem. Classic MPC models such as MPC1000, MPC2000XL and MPC2500 require their own legacy workflows. Use included WAV files only when they meet the requirements of that model.
Can I use the WAV files outside MPC?
Yes. Standard WAV audio can be loaded into compatible DAWs and samplers. MPC specific mappings, artwork, choke groups, tuning and program settings do not transfer with the WAV file itself.
Should I install on the internal MPC drive?
Use dedicated user storage whenever possible. SD, USB, supported SATA storage or a dedicated user drive keeps third party content separate from protected factory content and makes backup easier.
Do all Soul Chemist expansions contain the same files?
No. The product page is always the final reference. Current releases commonly include XPN, a prepared Standalone folder and WAV content, but older or specialist releases can differ.
Does MPC 3 change the export workflow?
Yes. Akai documents MPC 3 export through File > Tools > Expansion Manager. MPC 2 uses the older File > Export > Expansion… route.
